U.S. Taxpayers Paying to Study Albanian Tourism

Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs
Subcommittee on Federal Spending Oversight and Emergency Management
Abstract
From the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, the Subcommittee on Federal Spending Oversight and Emergency Management led by Senator Rand Paul issued a weekly waste report looking into a federal taxpayer funded program that promotes and aids the Albanian tourist industry. The report looks into how necessary the program is to U.S. interests and the current state of the tourist sector in Albania. The Subcommittee finds that the current Albanian tourist industry is larger, as a percent of GDP, than the United States. It also finds that the program is counterintuitive to the money spent on promoting U.S. tourism.
