Medicare Drug Plan Prices are Higher than Medicare Drug Card Prices

House Committee on Government Reform
Special Investigations Division
Abstract
The Special Investigation Division of the House Committee on Government Reform investigated the Medicare drug cards, a program created as a transition to the new Medicare prescription drug plans. The investigation discovered the prices from the new Medicare drug plans are significantly higher, averaging 14% more than the drug card prices. The report suggests that the new Medicare drug plans are not successful in negotiating drug price concessions indicating a potential disadvantage for seniors, individuals with disabilities, and taxpayers.
