A Variety of Waste

Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs
Subcommittee on Federal Spending Oversight and Emergency Management
Abstract
From the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, the Subcommittee on Federal Spending Oversight and Emergency Management led by Senator Rand Paul issued a weekly waste report focusing on a one million dollar funding opportunity through the U.S. Embassy-Kabul to produce a variety show in Afghanistan. The show would contain cutaways with English lessons, ultimately teaching English to the audience. The report takes issue with the initial funding itself, the game-show aspect of production, and primary communication being conducted in the Dari language, contrary to stated teaching goals. The Subcommittee concludes that the funding of the show in general is a waste of taxpayer money.
