National Park Service X-Files Project

Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs
Subcommittee on Federal Spending Oversight and Emergency Management
Abstract
From the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, the Subcommittee on Federal Spending Oversight and Emergency Management led by Senator Rand Paul issued a weekly waste report which looks at National Park Service (NPS) funding for investigating supernatural events in Alaska. The report takes issue with funding this program when the NPS already has approximately $12 billion in maintenance backlog. The report finds that the $150,000 used for this program will be used for archival research, community meetings, and honorariums, among other experiences. It additionally finds that the Park Service has committed to further assistance beyond this direct funding which implies additional costs.
