The Bush Administration's Data on Global Terrorism in 2005
House Committee on Government Reform
House Committee on Government Reform
Abstract
The House Committee on Government Reform examines the State Department and the National Counterterrorism Center’s (NCTC) annual report on global terrorism for 2005. The NCTC reports show a significant increase in terrorist attacks and deaths since the U.S. invasion of Iraq. The data revealed 11,111 terrorist attacks causing 14,602 deaths in 2005, compared to 208 attacks causing 625 deaths in 2003. Officials attributed this rise to a new methodology and stricter review but faced criticism for not providing directly comparable numbers from previous years.
