Medicare Drug Cards Provide Few Discounts in New York's 7th Congressional District

House Committee on Government Reform
Special Investigations Division
Abstract
The Special Investigations Division of the House Committee on Government Reform evaluated the effectiveness of Medicare prescription drug cards, introduced on June 1, 2004, in providing discounts on prescription drugs for seniors, focusing on the 7th Congressional District of New York. The analysis specifically considers the prices for the top ten brand-name drugs commonly used by seniors. The findings indicate that, apart from low-income seniors receiving a $600 subsidy upon card enrollment, most seniors in the district are not experiencing significant discounts, with few or no discernible benefits.
