The House Committee on Oversight and Government and Reform investigated fines connected by various U.S. Government agencies.The committee requested information from 34 federal agencies, exploring the assessment, collection, and allocation of fines and penalties, discovering that most funds are directed to the U.S. Department of the Treasury's General Fund. The U.S. Government collects billions of dollars each year through the assessment of fines and penalties, collecting over $83 billion between 2010 and 2015.
