The School of Waste

Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs
Subcommittee on Federal Spending Oversight and Emergency Management
Abstract
From the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, the Subcommittee on Federal Spending Oversight and Emergency Management led by Senator Rand Paul issued a weekly waste report on private non-profit school Hope Academy spending $2.9 million from Hurricane Katrina Aid funds. Hope Academy requested the funds to expand the school for a reported 90 students in a new area, of which they only confirmed 13 students. They used the funds to buy land owned by the school's Board of Directors which was largely unusable and 15 miles from the original school location.
