Abstract
From the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, the Subcommittee on Federal Spending Oversight and Emergency Management led by Senator Rand Paul issued a weekly waste report describing a decision made by the National Park Service (NPS) to spend $44,890 for a 21-foot rug replica at the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial (Boyhood Memorial) in Lincoln City, Indiana. Numerous references to how the historic rug was not maintained and preserved but was allowed to be walked on by visitors of the establishment were frequent in the report. Because of the carelessness to upkeep preserve the original historic rug, the report questions the historical importance and significance in needing a replica.
