The Equifax Data Breach

House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform
Abstract
The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform investigated a data leak of Equifax that affected 148 million consumers. The investigation found that Equifax, one of the largest consumer reporting agencies, failed to address cybersecurity risks. Further, the committee found that had the company fully appreciated the cybersecurity risks, the data breach could have been prevented.
