Tis the Season to be Wasting, Fa La La La - La - La La - La - La (Your Government Sponsored Christmas Tree)

Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs
Subcommittee on Federal Spending Oversight and Emergency Management
Abstract
From the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, the Subcommittee on Federal Spending Oversight and Emergency Management led by Senator Rand Paul issued a weekly waste report which focuses on a Department of Agriculture program that gave the Georgia Christmas Tree Association $50 thousand to run cable TV ads in order to boost sales for Georgia Grown Christmas trees. The report finds that funding the commercials falls under special marketing assistance grants with broad eligibility criteria and takes issue with the funding of the commercials in a state that produces more trees than 28 other states, and in a market that sells approximately 30 million real trees annually.
