Head Start Helps Low-Income Children Receive Necessary Dental Care: Current Proposals in Congress Jeopardize Progress

House Committee on Government Reform
Special Investigations Division
Abstract
The Special Investigations Division of the House Committee on Government Reform conducted an investigation into the role that the Head Start program plays in influencing the quality and accessibility of poor children's dental care. The committee surveyed over 2,000 Head Start program directors in 2002. The division found that the Head Start program improved the accessibility and quality of poor children's dental care, but did not completely solve issues related to accessing dental care.
