President Biden's Border Crisis at Six Months: A Security, Humanitarian, and Public Health Crisis

House Committee on Oversight and Reform
House Committee on Judiciary
Abstract
The House Committee on Oversight and Reform and the House Committee on the Judiciary produced this report examining changes made in several immigration policies since President Biden took office in January 2021. The report claims the changes led to a surge of migrants at the southwest border, overwhelming border infrastructure and personnel and resulting in a security, public health, and humanitarian crisis. The chaos benefited smugglers and cartels, incentivized illegal activity, and put vulnerable migrants at risk. This crisis has necessitated emergency response measures costing taxpayers millions of dollars and is projected to lead to long-term high levels of illegal immigration and increased costs.
