Review of U.S. Treasury Department's License to Convert Iranian Assets Using the U.S. Financial System

Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs
Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations
Abstract
The Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs issued a Majority Staff report based on an investigation into the U.S. Treasury Department's license to convert Iranian assets using the U.S. financial system in contrast to messages from U.S. officials assuring that Iran would not be able to access the U.S. financial system and the U.S. dollar. The report also included findings and recommendations concerning the implementation of crippling financial sanctions on Iran in response to the country's enrichment of uranium and development of nuclear weapons, and unresolved issue of Iranian funds being converted.
