Trapped by Waste

Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs
Subcommittee on Federal Spending Oversight and Emergency Management
Abstract
From the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, the Subcommittee on Federal Spending Oversight and Emergency Management led by Senator Rand Paul issued a weekly waste report on Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts being handed $594,000 for operating costs by the National Park Service. This money is required to be given by the Park Service due to a $2.2 million earmark by Congress that is hidden deep within an explanatory statement for the Appropriations Act, despite requests from the National Park Service to eliminate the ear mark. The report additionally takes issue because the Wolf Trap funds are used to "pay a portion of the costs of the union stagehands that work backstage" so taxpayer money is being used to alleviate themselves from having to pay full union prices.
