House Committee on Government Reform
Subcommittee on National Security, Veterans' Affairs, and International Relations
Abstract
The Subcommittee on National Security, Veterans Affairs, and International Relations of the House Committee on Government Reform investigated the connection between fifty caliber weapons with armor piercing ammunition and criminal activity. After analyzing trace requests for ammunition purchases, the subcommittee found that a majority of the traces led directly to weapons in the possession of organizations or individuals suspected of criminal activity, including: an assassination attempt, the shooting of a federal ATF agent, and multiple homicides at a shopping center in Colorado. Moreover, the investigation revealed sales to individuals with criminal records, second-hand sales among conspirators, and the illegal possession of weapons stolen from legal purchasers.
