Seresto Flea and Tick Collars: Examining Why a Product Linked to More than 2,500 Pet Deaths Remains on the Market

House Committee on Oversight and Reform
Subcommittee on Economic and Consumer Policy
Abstract
The Subcommittee on Economic and Consumer Policy of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform presents the results of a 16-month investigation into the safety of the Seresto flea and tick collar. The investigation was prompted by a USA Today report in March 2021, revealing over 75,000 incidents and around 1,700 pet deaths linked to the collar as of June 2020, which have since increased to over 98,000 incidents and 2,500 pet deaths. The investigation found that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was aware of the dangers and consumer complaints for several years but failed to take action. Despite the high incident numbers, Elanco has not initiated a voluntary recall of the collar.
