The Special Investigations Division of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform delves into the implications of President Bush's proposed FY 2006 budget for the Department of Veterans Affairs on veterans residing in California’s 29th Congressional District. The report notes that the proposed fee increases could compel hundreds of veterans in Rep. Schiff’s district to withdraw from the VA healthcare system, with over 850 veterans enrolled in VA facilities potentially affected. Additionally, veterans who choose to remain in the system may face significant financial burdens, with average cost increases of $390 annually per veteran in California. Overall, California veterans could see millions of dollars in additional costs, including hundreds of thousands of dollars in Rep. Schiff’s district.
