A Case Study in Politics and Science: Changes to the National Healthcare Disparities Report

Abstract
The Special Investigations Division of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform investigated disparities in the conclusions between two versions of the National Healthcare Disparities Report released by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The investigation, prompted by congressional request, reveals significant alterations made by HHS to the scientists' original findings in the June draft. While the draft emphasized "significant inequality" and identified healthcare disparities as "national problems," the final version, released in December, omitted these conclusions, raising concerns about the accuracy and transparency of the report.
