Border Patrol Agents in Secret Facebook Group Faced Few Consequences for Misconduct

House Committee on Oversight and Reform
Abstract
The House Committee on Oversight and Reform investigated offensive posts made by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) personnel in secret Facebook groups, with a focus on the "I'm 10-15" group. Despite CBP's awareness of misconduct on the platform since August 2016, the report states that the agency took minimal action to improve social media training or guidance. The investigation revealed that out of 135 cases investigated, 60 CBP agents engaged in misconduct, but the disciplinary actions imposed were often significantly reduced from the recommendations, allowing some agents to resume working with migrants and children.
