Abstract
From the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, the Subcommittee on Federal Spending Oversight and Emergency Management led by Senator Rand Paul issued a weekly waste report focusing on the loss of approximately $29 million in heavy equipment in Afghanistan. The report looks at how the Department of Defense was attempting to help establish the National Engineering Brigade for critical infrastructure purposes, but the necessary equipment never made it to the NEB. The Subcommittee finds that the equipment was delivered to a branch of the Afghan National Army for further delivery to the NEB which never occurred. The report also inquires why the equipment was not sent directly to the NEB instead.
