A Constitutional Obligation: Congressional Oversight of the Executive Branch

House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform
Abstract
The Committee on Oversight and Government Reform conducted an investigation into congressional oversight of the Executive Branch during the 111th Congress. The report finds that the Democratic Congress showed more commitment to rigorous oversight when the Executive Branch was led by a Republican. When a Democrat took presidential office, the report finds that Executive officials were no longer held accountable and hearings on crucial issues were no longer conducted.
