Nursing Home Conditions in the San Francisco Bay Area: Many Homes Fail to Meet Federal Standards for Adequate Care

House Committee on Government Reform
Special Investigations Division
Abstract
The Special Investigations Division of the House Committee on Government Reform investigated the conditions of nursing homes in the San Francisco Bay Area to determine whether they complied with federal law. Out of the 288 nursing homes that were investigated, only 18 were in full or substantial compliance with federal standards. Furthermore, the report found that 119 homes had violations that caused actual harm to residents or placed them as risk of death or serious injury.
