Making Federal Computers Secure: Overseeing Effective Information Security Management
House Committee on Government Reform ; Subcommittee on Government Efficiency, Financial Management, and Intergovernmental Relations
House Committee on Government Reform
Subcommittee on Government Efficiency, Financial Management, and Intergovernmental Relations
Abstract
The Subcommittee on Government Efficiency, Financial Management, and Intergovernmental Relations of the House Committee on Government Reform sought to determine the current threats to and security capabilities of the U.S.'s information infrastructure. The subcommittee relied largely on annual reviews published by the Office of Management and Budget, which is the agency responsible for overseeing Federal information security, in addition to General Accounting Office audits, Inspector General evaluations, and the President's 2003 budget submission. The subcommittee found that the Federal Government still faces significant threats to its information infrastructure despite the gradual advancement of many of its agencies.
