The subcommittee found that billions of dollars from public and private consumers is lost to healthcare fraud each year. The current enforcement resources that discourage fraud are wasted on the same fraudulent schemes in multiple jurisdictions. Moreover, the subcommittee found that the Department of Justice needs strong statutory authority to deter healthcare fraud and abuse. To remedy this issue, the committee recommended that Congress make healthcare fraud against public and private payers a Federal criminal offense.19 pagesenCommittee Approved ReportsHealthcare Fraud: All Public and Private Payers Need Federal Criminal Anti-Fraud ProtectionsHouse Committee Approved Report3: Health300: General104Yes
